Bored Ape Yacht Club comes to Harmony: Cross-Chain NFT Validation for Defi Kingdoms
Owners can now display their assets in multiple environments, confirming the web3 vision of decentralized access and user ownership
SAN FRANCISCO, February 17, 2022 - Harmony, an open and fast blockchain for assets, collectibles, identity and governance, has launched a Bored Ape Yacht Club passport, successfully creating a cross-over realm where holders of Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs can import proof of their apes into Defi Kingdoms, a GameFi Play-to-Earn game built on the Harmony blockchain.
This further confirms the web3 vision of a world with decentralized access and ownership of contents enabled by NFTs.
Harmony Team Member Leo Chen says, Bored Ape Yacht Club has one of the most active, diverse, and creative communities in Web3. With Harmony, we are constantly looking to partner with like-minded teams, whose ethos align with our values and visions. We wanted to give all NFT holders more utility and options to display their NFTs and participate in the metaverse. Bored Ape Yacht Club holders are the first choices. The cross-chain identity creates a secure and easy way to do so without putting their assets at risk.”
Due to the limits and infancy of cross-chain technology funds are often put at risk when bridging across chains, but mechanisms like Harmony’s passport encourages a new way of thinking about interoperability, because rather than moving assets, Harmony introduces a new way to prove that we own these assets on multiple blockchains - expanding the NFTs usability.
By bringing proof of NFTs from Ethereum onto Harmony Mainnet, Harmony has created a funnel between the Bored Ape Yacht Club community and DeFi Kingdoms, the most popular game on Harmony that has hit a record high of 7.2 million transactions.
Ape holders now have the opportunity to validate and display their assets in the game. This seamless integration allows the Bored Ape Yacht Club owner to connect their Metamask wallet to Defi Kingdoms, and then selects which ape they’d like to use for their Defi Kingdoms profile picture.
Vera Li, Harmony Team Member/ BAYC Community Member says, “I joined the BAYC community from its beginning in May 2021. The BAYC team is focusing on building instead of focusing on prices, and this aligns with Harmony’s culture. As a BAYC community member, I raised a question to Harmony’s core team: 'why has Harmony not aped in yet?' Harmony aped in for the culture and will bring our strong technical abilities and our desire to help educate others around security and blockchain technology basics."
For the first 100 ape owners who make their BAYC ape their DK profile picture, those owners will receive 50 $JEWELS - the main token of value in the Defi Kingdom game.
At this year’s ETHDenver conference (February 18th-20th), the Harmony team will also demo the new passport feature for all attendees.
